  • Chilly spell ends: Taiwan to bask in 30°C weekend warmth

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) reports that northern and northeastern Taiwan experienced temperatures between 14 and 17 degrees Celsius on Feb. 16, due to the influence of the northeast monsoon. However, a warm-up is expected over the weekend. Starting from Sunday, the weather will trend towards being excessively warm, with only a few brief showers expected on the east coast and Hengchun Peninsula. Meteorological experts predict that warm south winds will stabilize the weather next week, with clear skies and high temperatures likely to exceed 30 degrees Celsius. The CWA anticipates a front approaching by Wednesday next week, which may bring increased moisture to eastern regions and mountain areas of the north, resulting in brief, localized showers. Other areas will experience partly cloudy to clear weather. Until the arrival of the new front, the overall climate will remain warm, providing a good opportunity to enjoy the sunshine.

Temperatures around the country will gradually rise next week, with southern and central Taiwan potentially reaching 30 degrees by next Wednesday, and the north and east seeing highs between 27 and 28 degrees. However, a front approaching next Thursday may bring brief local showers in the northern and eastern halves of the island, while conditions in most other places are forecast to remain largely cloudy to sunny.

  • Taiwan braces for dual Northeast Monsoon onslaught

Taipei is set to experience two waves of the Northeast Monsoon, which will result in decreasing temperatures and possible brief, isolated showers in the northern and northeastern regions. The monsoon is expected to weaken on Tuesday and Wednesday, but an increase in rainfall across most regions, except for the south, is anticipated due to influence from South China’s rainfall zone. The second wave of the monsoon is scheduled to hit next Friday, intensifying during the night and bringing chilliness and chances of rainfall in the north and Yilan. The air quality in central and southern regions may worsen due to foreign influences, while Yilan and Hualien currently have "good" air quality and Taipei, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Matsu, and Penghu regions have a "fair" level. The central region, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and Jinmen, are under an "orange alert" for air quality.

  • Taiwan to see sun, approaching rain as cold front nears

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has forecasted sunny to partly cloudy skies across Taiwan and its outlying islands on Friday (Dec. 15), with a front bringing brief rain showers to the north, northeast, and Matsu in the evening. A continental polar air mass will move in the next day, resulting in a drop in temperatures and damp, cold weather that will persist through Monday. Independent meteorologist Daniel Wu predicts that a stronger wave of cold air will arrive on Tuesday (Dec. 19), potentially marking the season’s first cold wave. Brief showers are expected in the northern and eastern parts of Taiwan from Saturday, with lows around 12 degrees Celsius in some metropolitan areas. Rain will pause on Monday until Tuesday afternoon, followed by another wave of cold air from Tuesday evening to Friday (Dec. 22). Weather models suggest that this wave might reach the strength of a strong continental cold air mass, with the potential for it to be upgraded to a cold wave. The cold is expected to gradually weaken by Saturday, Dec. 23.

  • Weather shift to bring comfortable warmth in Taiwan: CWA

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has announced that Taiwan will experience sunny to cloudy conditions with noticeable radiational cooling in the early morning, resulting in a cold start to the day. The temperature difference between day and night in the northern parts of the country is expected to exceed 10 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature recorded this morning was 11.6 degrees Celsius at Liyu Lake, Hualien. Other regions, including Daxi District in Taoyuan, Guanxi Township in Hsinchu, Xihu Township in Miaoli, and Lunbei Township in Yunlin, also experienced temperatures below 13 degrees Celsius. During the day, temperatures are projected to rebound swiftly, with highs between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius in the northern and eastern parts of Taiwan, and 28 to 29 degrees Celsius in the central and southern parts. From Saturday to Monday, the CWA predicts a shift in winds from easterlies to southerlies, leading to a general increase in temperature across the country. This change will bring mostly sunny to cloudy weather and comfortable warmth. By next Tuesday, a rapidly passing frontal system, along with a strengthened northeast monsoon, will bring a slight dip in temperatures. The northern and northeastern parts of the country will have a cooler day with brief, localized showers, while changes in weather for other regions will be minimal. Starting next Wednesday, clear and sunny skies are expected to return to the entirety of Taiwan.

  • Taiwan braces for cool weather as monsoons approach

Two northeastern monsoons will bring cooler weather and rainfall to different parts of Taiwan starting Thursday (Nov. 22), according to meteorologist Wu De-rong. Rain showers are expected on the windward side of the island, with another monsoon surge arriving on Monday. By Tuesday into Wednesday morning, a strong radiative cooling effect will cause temperatures to drop to around 11 degrees Celsius in Taipei. Despite the temperature drop at night, days will warm up quickly. The entire region is expected to have clear skies today with large diurnal temperature variations. Temperatures across the island range from 14 to 29 degrees in the north and central areas, and 14 to 30 degrees in the south and east. Localized brief showers are expected tomorrow and Saturday along the northern coast, eastern Greater Taipei, and other eastern areas, while regions south of Taoyuan will remain mostly sunny with some cloud cover. As the cold air mass weakens, daytime temperatures in northern Taiwan will slightly cool. By Sunday, as the monsoon eases, the weather is forecasted to improve with a slight temperature increase, though brief showers may still occur in eastern areas.
